Season Update 2020

SPICY CHILLY

Moving into this season, Spicy will be taking the same fearless attitude towards both trainings and competition. Last year saw the foundations laid for a supportive, competitive environment for athletes to thrive and this year will be no different. In season 2020 Spicy Chilly will continue this trend whilst expanding on it so as to build each individual, and shape both team and club culture. Spicy is known for being a team in which players are able to direct team goals and establish what they as a collective want from the season and this year will be no different.

This year the Spicy coaching staff will be working with athletes individually to promote growth on and off field through cultivating an environment in which each athlete is challenged to grow and overcome obstacles. In season 2020 Spicy will be looking to develop social and competitive cohesion to achieve both shared and individual goals; an open and honest team in which each member is accountable and required to put in the work to get the most out of themselves for themselves and for those around them.

HOT CHILLY

Hot Chilly is going to be pushing hard this season to develop the crop of emerging players to the top level. With a new player leadership structure lead by Josh de Bell we are excited to see how far this group can go. The direction this team will take is going to be lead by real hunger at its core that we believe every ultimate player will want to be a part of. This team will develop on last years drive as we continue on our march towards WUCC 2022.

Hot Chilly is a team that prides itself on its inclusive and welcoming nature, and will capitalise on this to deliver the best results both on and off field. With a focus on creating a team that will thrive within the new UAT system, Hot Chilly will require players to push themselves both physically and mentally to be the best player they can be, whilst also pushing the team to achieve across all tournament events.

If you’re looking for fiery competition, a rigorous training environment and the opportunity to build connections with some of the finest people the ultimate community has to offer, Hot Chilly is the place to be.

Josh de Bell

Josh has been a Chilly stalwart for seven consecutive years, we can think of no better person to lead the club’s emerging batch of young players. Colloquially known as ‘JdB’, Josh has represented Victoria, Australia, Chilly, and most recently, the Melbourne Flames in national and international level competition.

With silky skills and a strong work ethic, we are looking forward to seeing how Josh’s dedicated approach to training and respect for the sport, teammates and opponents, translates into the coaching field.

In his own words;

“I am humbled by the opportunity to lead the team I joined as a fresh 19-year-old back in 2014 where I can count on one hand the amount of forward passes I threw during the Nationals season. It is not a responsibility I take lightly. I am excited by the prospect of leading the club’s next generation of talent and continuing to work alongside the players who gave me my first chance at the sport.

After a few seasons outside the top four at Nationals I am keen to see Hot return to the top tier of Australian teams in the revamped Australian Tour. I am also anticipating the positive role that Hot players can lead to support the broader club in developing skills, playing competitive frisbee, and fostering a fun, supportive club environment.

My frisbee philosophy is pretty simple; “you work hard on- and off-the-field, you win together, and you enjoy yourself doing it”. For all those reading, I’d encourage you to come down to Chilly tryouts and chat with current players about the exciting opportunities available for season 2020.

Looking forward to seeing everyone down there!

Peace.”

Note that Hot Chilly’s final leadership structure, including responsibilities for fitness and conditioning, and strategy and structures, will be made known to players during the selection process.

FRESH CHILLY

Fresh is looking to build of the fun culture from last season and develop players to compete at the next level. We’re really excited to see what the team can do this year driven by a lot of young talent. As a group, Fresh will push for inclusion in the UAT Div 1 Tour / a podium finish at Div 2 Nationals.

With the changes coming this season to div 1 with the Ultimate Australia Tour, Hot and Fresh Chilly will train together on Wednesday nights and separately on Sunday afternoons. The joint trainings on Wednesday nights will develop skills and will aspire to to push all players by the Hot Chilly leadership group, and several guest coaches throughout the season.

A skills-driven training ethic will be developed, which will allow individuals to capitalise on their natural athletic capabilities. Athletes chosen for Fresh Chilly will be pushed by their peers and as a group to realise their potential on the ultimate field. Fresh Chilly will look to develop on the work ethic, and camaraderie established last years season as a means to grow each player individually, whilst establishing in them an elite training ethic to allow for players to push towards making Rep teams and advance their ultimate careers.

We understand that financial burden can be a barrier, especially for young players just starting at club level. So it is our hope that these scholarships can help reduce that burden and ensure that the players of tomorrow have every opportunity to continue to develop and compete at the highest level.
